Langkawi consist of 99 islands about 3 hours north of Penang and with its lush rice paddies and tax free status a beautiful and cheap place to stay a few days.
I took the morning ferry to the port of Kuah and from there it is a 35 minutes taxi ride to Pentai Chenang (Chenang Beach) on the western coast. I reckon this is the first time that I choose the accommodation that was lonely planet’s pick.
Gecko Guesthouse - nice, shady place to hang out |
Gecko Guesthouse, the name basically gives away what creatures you will encounter most, is a nice, shady place to stay and even has some monkeys chained to a tree. I just realize I missed to take a picture of them but have a look at the Balinese Macaques from the Ubud post and you’ll know what monkeys I am talking about. Those are cute little fellows but they tend to argue a lot, especially when it is raining and there is just one blanket.

Talking about rain, it is still the wet low-season and so you don’t meet a lot of tourists in town. Even the lonely planet’s pick was pretty much empty which happens rarely.
Walking for about 20 minutes you get to see those huge rice paddies seemingly stretching for miles. These ones even feature water buffalos. I wanted to take a picture of three young’uns and so I took a small track into the rice when their mother looked up, gazed at me suspiciously and started walking toward me without ever taking her eyes off me. I realized I wasn’t welcome here and continued on my way.

From time to time it is really pouring down for 20 minutes so that you just ask yourself how much rain is up there. But everything dries quickly and after an hour you hardly see any traces of the rain anymore.
Chenang is very touristic and comprises of shop after restaurant after shop after shop on a long strip along the beach.

As you can see I have made some changes to this blog and I hope you digg it (if so you can show it by clicking on the Facebook-Like-Button). Not being the most it-savvy it took me quite some time to figure it out. Having a cold and that template bothering me for some months now gave me the excuse I needed to put some time into it. Check my Current Location which I will try to keep as up to date as possible even if there are no new blog posts.
The background image was taken on the temple tour in Ubud, Bali in case you are wondering.
On the top right you have now the opportunity to chat with me whenever I am online. Feel free to click on it, I am always up for a chat about home or about my travel.
There might come some more features in the future once I got more into these HTML-widgetthingys.
